Spring Masonic Lodge #1174
AF&AM
Stated Meetings monthly on the third Thursday, 7pm.
On December 17, 1920, twenty Master Masons in good standing of Humble Lodge #979, AF&AM, having the prosperity of the craft at heart and anxious to exert their best endeavors to promote and diffuse the general principals of Freemasonry -- and for the convenience of their respective dwellings and other good reasons, were desirous of forming a new lodge to be named "Spring Lodge." The brethren respectfully prayed for a recommendation empowering them to meet at 8pm on the Thursday on or before the full moon of every month, and there to discharge the duties of ancient craft masonry, in a constitutional manner, according to the forms of the order of the Grand Lodge. They nominated and recommended Bro. A.B. Noble to be the first Worshipful Master, Bro. J.I. Heard to be the first Senior Warden, and Bro. L.T. Pevateaux to be the first Junior Warden of said lodge.

Thus, Spring Lodge #1174 was chartered on December 9th, 1921, whereas the officers promised strict obedience to the commands of the Grand Master and the laws and regulations of the Grand Lodge of Texas.

The very first home of Spring Lodge was right next door to the old bank building on the corner of Preston and Gentry, at 119 Gentry Street in old town Spring. It was a two-story building, though we used only the second floor (the first served as a cannery during World War II). These quarters served the lodge for 27 years, from our founding in 1921 to the year 1948, when Brother (and three-time Past Master) J.W. Salyers decided it was time to modernize our accommodations, and purchased the old schoolhouse from the Spring School District.

Our new home, located at 26304 Aldine-Westfield, was again a two-story building (we have a thing for those). But, it was a short stay.

This time, the brothers of the lodge decided to build a brand new structure, at 26514 Preston Avenue in Old Town Spring. The property for the new building was donated to Spring Lodge by Bro. Gus Bayer on October 16th, 1952, under a special agreement that the property returns to the possession of the Bayer family, should Masonic work ever cease. The parking lot was purchased on February 26th, 1951, from owners Bro. E.C. Robinson, Bro. J.E. Robinson, Adele Robinson Nicolai and husband August F. Nicolai, and Marie Robinson McMullin and husband C.H. McMullin, for the sum of $10.00. The brothers of the lodge handled all the construction themselves, with lumber that was cut and milled from the Bender Estate along Riley-Fuzzel Road. They must've done a fine job, as this building still serves as our home -- 59 years later!
